Wicked Ticket Sales Soar After Tonys

Wicked has always been one of the bestselling musicals on Broadway. Following the Tony awards, the new musicals on the Great White Way tend to surge in sales and surpass old chestnuts like Wicked. In fact, Once, the winner of the best new musical Tony, took in one million dollars for the week for the first time since it opened, yet Wicked took in twice that amount in ticket sales in the same week. The surge in Wicked ticket sales isn't surprising. Always a favorite among tourists and theater lovers alike, Wicked has broken sales records throughout its nearly decade long run. Summer is also when tourists flock to New York City, and their favorite shows tend to be musicals. Some may hunt for discount Wicked tickets, but with the popularity of Stephen Schwartz's megahit once again surging, fans might find it hard to find seats in these standing room only performances. The success of the story of Elphaba, the Wicked Witch of the West, and the real story of the land of Oz has kept theatergoers coming back, and ticket sales don't appear to be slowing down anytime soon.
